How do you communicate a sense of belonging during a pandemic?

Create a video. This video helped highlight the Y’s belief that communities thrive when opportunities are available to everyone and when individuals from diverse backgrounds collaborate on a shared vision for the future. My focus with the script and close ups of faces (with and without masks) was to create a visual sense of belonging for people at a time when social distancing was still a reality.

As more people returned to the Y following the vaccine rollout, the video aimed to welcome both new and returning members. Its goal was to encourage them to explore new passions and find a stronger sense of purpose at the McGaw YMCA.

Our efforts were instrumental in centering the people of the YMCA at a time that required us to be socially distant. The facilities and program highlights played a crucial role in the video, emphasizing the Y’s commitment to providing safe and enriching social experiences during the pandemic. Our focus remained centered on the Y’s mission and its dedication to social justice, which served as guiding principles for their work. The Membership and Development teams successfully utilized the video to boost membership and enhance individual giving and grant acquisition.
